I adore creating outfits. It’s therapeutic and a huge self-esteem booster for me. Except I know not everyone feels that way about clothes and especially the ultimate outfit fiasco: pattern mixing.
Let me share with you the simple and sweet message that I use when I’m mixing patterns– if the colors match, the patterns will too.
Here are some examples of my favorite outfits I’ve created recently. (Shout out to Kaeli Wiltbank for taking my pics. She’s a gem and an absolutely lovely lady. Check out her instagram too: @kaeliwphotography.)
Pattern Mixing 101
1. You can never go wrong with stripes and florals or plaid and stripes. STAPLE pattern mixes in my book.
2. I’ve had this cardigan in my closet for awhile now and I could NEVER figure out what to wear it with. It has a billion different colors and they don’t all go together, but then I looked closely at the pattern and realized there was some navy in there (not black like I thought) so BAM polka dot, navy dress it was!
3. This outfit is all about the textures. While the pink dress isn’t a bold pattern, it’s has a unique look and I couldn’t pass up the chance to pair it with my floral kimono.
Those are only a handful of examples of what you can do with patterns. Although…if you need a shopping buddy, I’ve got your back.
